What is a Course Rep?
A Course Rep is an elected student who takes forward class (or course) views to the S.S.C.C. meeting to discuss further and help improve the course for future students. They may take forward issues, or things that students really like about a course to make it the best it can be. Whatever is taken forward must be related to the course itself (so parking is NOT something to be brought up in S.S.C.C). Course Reps should be elected at the start of each Academic year (or re-elected if the same person wishes to remain in the role). This ensures that everyone has a chance to be a rep, and the students have a chance to change reps if they wish.
What is S.S.C.C.?
This stand for the Staff-Student Consultative Committee. This is a meeting where Course Reps and appropriate staff from the course get together to discuss students view points. Any improvements that seem feasible will then be taken forward by the staff to improve the course or specific module. The Course Rep(s) will then feedback to their appropriate class(es)/Course.
I'm a Lecturer, what do I need to do?
You may need to run a simple election for the class. Check with whoever is responsible for your area to see what reps. are required. If you need to run any elections follow the process as stated in the 'Staff Pack' available to download at the bottom of this page. Ensure you pass on names to the Students' Union, and you give out the 'Welcome letter' included in the election pack for staff to elected reps IMMEDIATLY.
Basically ensure that the relevant reps are elected, and that meetings take place correctly. More information is included in the pack for 'Programme Leaders', available to download at the bottom of this page.
first, check the FAQ in the pack relevant to you at the bottom of this page, if your questions still aren't answered please contact the Democracy Officer or President if they are unavailable.

Course Reps (S.S.C.C.)
S.S.C.C. stands for Staff Student Consultative Committee. This is the committee system that is in place at Newman to enable students to input into how their course(s) are run. Each course will have one or more 'Course Reps'.
