What is an Academic Appeal?
An Academic Appeal is the process that allows students to appeal their academic results published by the assessment board or circumstances that relate to them. Academic appeals are made up of two stages:
Stage 1: Investigation and review
- Appeals form can be submitted using the “Academic Appeals Stage 1 Form”.
- The investigation and review of the appeal will take up to 25 working days.
Stage 2: Final stage
- If the student is dissatisfied with the outcome of stage one, they may wish to submit a Stage 2 Appeal using the “Academic Appeals Stage 2 Form”.
What are grounds for an Appeal?
- Material irregularities in the way the student’s case was considered by the Programme Assessment Board.
- Extenuating circumstances which affects the student’s performance.
What support can the Students' Union provide?
The SU can offer an impartial supportive representative to accompany you to meetings. The representative may provide moral support, observe and speak with permission of the chair. Please note we cannot be an expert witness.
Office of Independent Adjudicator (OIA):
The OIA is an independent body designed to review student complaints against the University. Students may only take their complaint to the OIA once the University procedures have been exhausted and a completion of procedure letter has been issued. The student submit can application to the OIA within 12 months of the completion of procedure letter issue date.
