All Part-Time Officers will be required to attend both Student Council and their relevant Sub-Committee. Council will meet at least twice per term and the Sub-Committees will meet at least four times per term. These meetings are compulsory and are the opportunity for you to ensure you are getting the most impact from your team and delivering great results for students.
The General Responsibilities for Part-Time Officers, as laid out in the Union's Bye Laws are:
- The Part-Time Officers shall be members of Student Council, as laid out in Bye Law D.
- As described in Bye Law D, the Part-Time Officers will be members of either of the two sub-committees of Student Council: Voice & Support Committee; or Wellbeing & Community Committee
- Produce reports to the above committees as set out in the Bye Laws.
- Represent the interests of all members and Newman Students’ Union to the University and other external bodies as appropriate and in accordance with both Birmingham Newman University and Union policy.
- To attend any relevant University Committees and Meetings.
- The Part-time Officer team will champion our values and ensure that equality, diversity and inclusivity is at the heart of what we do.
- Part-Time Officers are a key point of contact for their defined group of students within the Union and provide information or signpost where necessary.
- Part-Time Officers will spearhead and support events and opportunities for their constituent groups.
We recognise that these responsibilities might seem daunting, but serve as a guideline and the Union Staff and Officer Trustees are here to help you in your roles, to ensure you get the most from the experience for you and your fellow students.
We will be able to offer support and guidance throughout your time in office. So don't be put off, embrace the challenge.
