Mentorship Program: Pair more experienced or confident students with those who may need a boost in self-confidence or advice on balancing self-care with academics.
Support for Students with ADHD, Dyslexia, and Other Learning Disabilities:
I will ensure that students with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning difficulties have access to the best resources and assistive technologies available.
This includes promoting apps like text-to-speech software, mind-mapping tools, and specialised reading aids that help with organisation and comprehension. I will work with the university’s disability services to increase awareness of these resources and advocate for expanded access to assistive technologies across campus.
Promote Student Wellness and Sustainability through Hydration Facilities: I will work to improve access to water refill stations across campus, ensuring students can easily stay hydrated throughout the day. This not only supports student wellness, which is crucial for mental and physical health, but also aligns with the university’s sustainability goals by reducing single-use plastic bottles. I will collaborate with campus services to install more accessible hydration points, focusing on areas where students need them most, and ensure these stations are eco-friendly and easy to use for all students, including those with disabilities.
Advocating for Student-Run Self-Care Kits
- Create a student-run initiative where self-care kits are distributed during stressful times, like exams or assignment deadlines. The kits could include items like mindfulness cards, herbal teas, stress-relief tools (e.g., fidget toys), and information about student services.
Promote Open Dialogue
Set Up Regular Feedback Channels: Use surveys, suggestion boxes, or open forums to encourage students to share their thoughts and need.
