Dear All
October is Black History Month, a time when we celebrate and recognise the contributions and achievements of the black community. This year, the Union wants you to be involved in this celebration. We have decided to ask students to share their experience of their black history, this will be recorded as a short film/visual document to mark the celebrations with the lived experience of people who matter to us, which is you!
Your time in front of the camera can be you talking about your history, why you are at Birmingham Newman and where you hope it will take you. You may want to do a spoken word piece or discuss something poignant that can shape a better understanding of the celebration. The video will be shared on the Unions website and social pages.
If you would like to be involved with this and for more information, please click here, by 17th October.
Thank you in advance for your support on this project. Celebrating Black History Month this way is a significant milestone for the Union, and you will be creating history by sharing your history. Your participation will be a proud moment for all of us.
If this is not for you, it will be lovely to see you at the Black Owned Business Fair on 22nd October from 11-3pm in the Atrium.
If you would like to be more involved in the Union and represent the views of the Global Majority Community at Newman, why not stand in our upcoming elections for the newly established REACH Officer Position (Race, Equality and Cultural Heritage). Nominations for this position and a range of other Part-Time Officer positions open at 9am on Monday. Click here to find out about the positions, how to stand and when to vote.
Best wishes
Gemma - Union President
