New to the Students’ Union, this year we have teamed up with Rosie, a current Newman Student, who has great experience and a real-passion for teaching British Sign Language. You can find out more about Rosie below. To gauge interest in expanding courses in BSL we have two taster sessions led by Rosie, which you can sign up for below.
In two sessions, we'll dive into BSL, covering key things to remember when signing and learn basic conversations needed to get you started including, the alphabet, introductions, greetings and some useful signs for university life.
We're keen to use these taster sessions to assess interest for a full BSL course at Newman. Participants will receive printed resources for practice and instructional videos. Places are limited so sign up to start learning this valuable skill that benefits our community. You must be logged in to the website to sign up for this programme. Please sign up to both sessions.
Meet Rosie
I'm Rosie, a final year Applied Humanities student at Newman. I'm a British Sign Language (BSL) Level 3 qualified, and I've previously supported a deaf student and their parent in a Primary school. I have a passion for promoting inclusive education, and I want to become a Special Education Needs Coordinator. In my career I have organised Sign Song and BSL clubs and am now looking forward to using these skills for BSL tasters at Newman.
