MY BLACK HISTORY.....Tell Your Story/ Reclaim the Narrative

The Union wants you to be involved in the 'Black History Month' celebration. To leave a lasting piece of work that celebrates 'Your Black History' we are asking students to share their experience of their black history, this will be recorded as a short film/visual document to mark the celebrations with the lived experience of people who matter to us, which is you!

Your time in front of the camera can be you talking through your history, why you are at Birmingham Newman and where you hope it will take you. You may want to do a spoken word piece or discuss something poignant that can shape a better understanding of the celebration. The video will be shared on the Unions website and social pages. If you would like to be involved in this oiece of work, please sign up below.

Filming will take place on Monday 21st & Tuesday 22nd October on campus. We will notify of the exact time you will be needed for filming closer to the date and the location of the filming. If you would like to be involved please prepare:

  • A 1 to 2 minute piece to speak to camera. Please try to keep within this time frame, however, if you have an amazing story to tell that takes a little longer then don't be put off, we will try to accomodate it in the finished film.

If you have any questions about the filming or the project, please contact either Gemma Bowen, Preisdent by clicking here or Robin Pitt, Union Director by clicking here.
