Number 1 students union in the west midlands and Birmingham

The results are in, and we are number 1 in Birmingham for the sixth year in a row!

The National Student Survey is organised by the Office for Students and gathers students’ opinions on the quality of their courses to help inform prospective students’ choices, provide data to help universities improve the student experience and support public accountability. Every university in the UK takes part in the annual survey, which enjoys consistently high response rates. The survey is completed by final year students who have finished their studies this academic year.

Students’ Unions are rated based off of Question 25 in the NSS which states: “How well does the students' union (association or guild) represent students' academic interests?”

We are so pleased to announce that on Wednesday 10th July we received the NSS results and Newman Students’ Union ranked 1st in Birmingham for the sixth year in a row, with an 79% positivity measure which is 4.2% above the benchmark.

Along with this, we also ranked:

  • 1st in the Midlands
  • 4th in the Cathedrals Group

As a Students’ Union, we know that this is just one measure of our success but it is one that we are tremendously proud of! We would like to thank last year’s officer and staff team for all their hard work that contributed to this outcome. It is a testament to the hard work that Newman Students’ Union does to make sure that we are working in the best interest of and supporting our students here at Newman. We aim to provide the best student experience for all Newman students and are proud to be a part of such an amazing community with students at the heart of it.

We would also like to recognise the hard work and great achievements of our institution. Birmingham Newman University received some amazing scores this year as well. The National Student Survey (NSS) results for 2024 have placed Birmingham Newman University seventh in the country for overall student satisfaction and number one in the West Midlands with an 85.4% overall positivity rating.

We look forward to the year ahead and to continue striving to be the best Students’ Union for our students.
