estimate that more than 5.6 million people in the UK are living with diabetes; an all-time high. Around 8% of people with diabetes have type 1 diabetes with around 90% of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes in the UK.
This year, the Union is raising awareness of living with diabetes as President Gemma has a child with type 1. Gemma feels it is important for people to be aware of what life can be like living with a lifelong health condition. Supporting this is Chris Jones from Adult Nursing and two Diabetes UK Volunteers.
